The Food Of Downton Abbey: Vanilla Sea Salt Caramel Eclair

When you head to a winter resort, there is only one thing better than the skiing (or at least equal to it). This is - of course - the apres ski! The good news is if you choose to stay in La Tania you can look forward to frequenting many of the venues in town. You won't have to worry about how to get there, as everything is reassuringly compact here. There is no traffic in the village and it is just a short distance from the restaurants and bars back to the ski chalets La Tania is known for.



1) Use your slow cooker easy beef stew slow cooker. For those of you who have visited my website or read my articles, you know that I love my crock pot. Use your slow cooker beef bourguignon for the vegetables, potatoes, soup, or even dessert! Or if you prefer and it's large enough put the meat in your slow cooker beef bourguignon and use your oven for the side dishes.

Seafood and fish are other crockpot options. A mixed fish stew or seafood chowder could be a good idea if you want something aromatic and refreshing rather than too heavy. You can make spaghetti sauce in a slow cooker as well, which means you would need to cook the spaghetti on the stove. The good thing about making sauces in a slow cooker is the way the flavors combine so well when they heat up so gently. Obviously this is not a one dish dinner, unless you have some leftover cooked spaghetti.

Very carefully, add the Cognac to the pan and ignite with flame (either the flames from a gas stove or with a long lighter.) Stand back while the Cognac flames then subsides as the alcohol is burned off.

Losing weight is the same way. Why, well you need all the ingredients to have your weight loss plan work for you and if you do not it will be just like the beef stew that did not turn out to well. If you are on a weight loss program that uses only pills, or only restrictive food diets or only an exercise plan then you will not be successful in your weight loss in the long run.

From the dinner party menu comes the shopping list. I'll create a needs list absent of the pantry slow cooker beef bourguignon items I already have to take it to the store. However, the real skill in creating this meal will be producing EXACTLY the correct amount of food, no waste, no leftovers. This starts with estimating correct portions.

4 slices bacon; 1 1/2 lbs. top round beef or stew meat, cut into 1" cubes; 1 can golden mushroom soup; 1/4 cup beef burgundy wine; 2 Tbsp. chopped parsley; pinch of black pepper; 12 small whole white onions; 2 cups sliced mushrooms. In large saucepan or electric skillet, cook bacon until crisp. Remove and crumble. Brown beef in bacon drippings. Pour off fat; add soup, wine, parsley and pepper. Cover, cook over low heat 1 1/2 hours. Add onions and mushrooms. Cover and cook 1 hour more until beef is tender. Serve over wide noodles. Garnish with bacon and parsley.

Where zucchini is concerned, there is something to be said for simplicity. Slice your zucchini finely, brush with olive oil if you have it (or salad oil), sprinkle with sea salt, and grill lightly in the oven or toaster oven. That's it. Add to toast, salad or pasta.
